Well... I went to the wedding of a co-worker yesterday. It was nice and it was fun. I took a whole bunch of pictures at the wedding and reception. Many of them are somewhat standard for wedding photos but they're pretty good as a whole. I thought you might like one of my favorites as an example to post here:

I think the Steelers made the right decision in letting Joey Porter go, but I really am going to miss the element of crazy that he brought to every game. If you live in Pittsburgh and are a Comcast customer, you should really watch the Steelers 24/7 coverage on OnDemand. Those shows have given me some good laughs over the years, none of them more than "A Day in the Life...Joey Porter," when he took viewers on a tour of his old neighborhood to show that his life hadn't all been "peaches'n'cream" but that at some points it had been "apricots and pomegranates." Apricots and pomegranates! Who says that kind of stuff? Joey Porter, that's who.

The Real Deal with the Penguins

As I am sure that you all are aware of the Penguins are talking about relocating to another city because they feel that they have reached a negotiating stalemate with city and state officials. What I don't get is why are so many Pittsburghers only mad at the city and not with the Penguins leadership? The city wants to keep them here but the Penguins are holding out for more money or whatever it is they want. They should consider themselves lucky to have such a loyal and devoted fan base even after many crapticular seasons.

So, if anyone from the Pens is reading this stay in Pittsburgh! After all we "Don't want to be like Cleveland".

On a personal note, I can't stand Mario. He's whiny and selfish and wouldn't play during the regular season but then went off and played for team Canada, won a gold medal and came back and didn't play. If the Pens leave, I will find him personally responsible.

Bizarre Cluelessness

I hesitate to even admit this. This morning I realized that there is a rather obvious reference that I've known as long as I can remember. The bizarre part is that I never realized what it meant until this morning.

It goes like this... as I was getting ready for work this morning the old drinking song, "Roll Out the Barrel" popped into my head. [I have no idea why this song popped into my head as I was putting socks on but that's a whole issue of its own and I don't have that kind of time.] Anyway... it suddenly occurred to me that the "barrel" was a keg of beer. Why wouldn't I have understood this before? Maybe it's just that I've known the song since I was young enough that I simply thought it would be fun to roll a barrel around. I don't know.

Maybe I shouldn't have admitted this.

Thanks to my class schedule, I am hardly ever home on Monday nights. So why is it that the times that I am home, the episodes of "How I Met Your Mother" and "Two and a half men" are repeats of the episodes I caught last time I was home on a Monday night? Why, God, why???? (shaking fist)

Also, has anybody else watched this new show with Patrick Warburton (AKA Putty) and David Spade called "Rules of Engagement"? It's on about the time I get home from class so as of late it's the only thing I catch on Monday nights. I'm not real picky about my TV, but this show is not very funny. The younger, engaged couple played by some chick and Goldie Hawn's son make me want to hit my head against the coffee table which is sad because the dude is super hot and I'd like to watch him but I can't because I'm so darn busy cringing at their lack of comedic timing and chemistry.

There are all kinds of things I can say about local news. I'm usually a Channel 2 person, but lately Channel 4 has been bringing me great pleasure. Some of the stories they report on (the turkey problem in Shadyside, viewers' snow pictures) are so insipid they give me pause to reevaluate my own life and consider how well it is going compared to the lives of the tools who report these kind of stories for a living. Ouch! I say this in love, though, as anybody who knows me well knows my love for local news anchors.

That being said, today during lunch at an undisclosed location in Oakland (which I can't reveal lest the paparazzi show up for pictures of the OPP staff), I was excited to see none other than Channel 4's diva divine, Sally Wiggin. After some further investigation on the Channel 4 web site I discovered that she and several of her fellow co-anchors have their own blogs. I mean, they'll give a blog to anybody these days....Seriously. And of course, Don Schweneker's post today is a recipe for pierogies. Of course it is.

Scheisse! The people of the city of Pittsburgh has this chip on its shoulder about any time someone bad mouths it. I don't understand it.

Here's the point: some tarty little trollop who was here to film a movie made some negative comments last year and it caused a huge stir. Everyone in the city was upset, annoyed, or outraged.
At the time, people were saying things like, "Can you believe what Sienna Miller said about Pittsburgh?" to which I would reply, "Who the hell is Sienna Miller?"
I still don't really know who she is but now I recognize the name. I don't think I would recognize her if I met her on the street but I'm sure she'd tell me who she is.
Still - I have the following question for Pittsburghers: Do you think the people of New York would give a rat's ass if she said something bad about the Big Apple?

OK. I don't usually watch American Idol, but I did last night, and boy did I get an eye full. I'll get to that in a sec.

First of all, why are all the boys and girls crying whenever their "friend" gets voted off? Now, you know they aren't that sad, that's one less opponent which should make them happy. But are they happy? NO, they are crying their eyes out! I don't buy it! I don't buy it! It's a load of CRAP!!!

Now, the eye full part, did anyone catch the New and "Improved" Kelli Pickler? Even though I didn't watch her last season, I still had an good idea of what she looked like. So, last night when she made her return to American Idol, I was shocked. First off, her hair style made her look as if she was in her 30s, and it would appear that she spent some of her post Idol $$ on a new pair of "you know what" (hint: boobs, they are boobs). I also think she had work done on her face, possibly an eye lift.

OMG!!! Is this what the music execs think America wants to see - another singer with the look of a generic porn star? I am offended they think this is what will drive me to spend my $ on their CDs. OFFENDED!!!

She looked cheap!!! I think with her new and "improved" look, she and her career has "jumped the shark".

GMail pushed me a story from Reuters today that cracked me up.

How many ways can this guy be stupid at once? The major acts of stupidity:
1) He committed his crime next door to police K9 training exercises.
2) He gets himself (in his stolen get-away car) stuck in the snow.
3) He attempts to out run a K9 cop on foot.

So, I just read on Perez that K Fed paid a visit to Britney today at the rehab center. There's been talk of possible reconciliation, and that Britney's family is very grateful for Kevin during this difficult time.

To be honest, I'm very grateful for Kevin right now as well. I'm glad that he's step up to the plate, and actually being a parent. I never thought of him that way EVER.

So, is it wrong to wish that Britney and Kevin were back together? A part of me says I'm crazy for thinking this and writing it down, because if that happens Kevin would probably end up disappointing me. But then the part of me says with Kevin's presence, Britney might just be less crazy.

I don't know. I'm feeling conflicted about this issue.

Learn to Drive

If you live in Pittsburgh it is understood that at some point you will have to drive in the snow. So, why do people that live here freak out every time it snows? Even a couple of snow flakes send people slamming on their brakes and backing traffic up for miles. It should not take over an hour (85 minutes to be exact) to drive from the east suburbs to Oakland.

If you can't drive in the snow move to Arizona because I'm tired of driving 4 miles an hour because you can't handle the roads being wet.

Why do we celebrate so much? (My Best Post Ever!!!)

Great lunch yall, sorry you missed it. "Sathy" and I had a great time.

One of the topics we discussed that I enjoyed was regarding the workplace and that it at times feels like kindergarten. Why do we celebrate so much? Why do we need to pitch in? Why am I asked to "give" to: going away parties, birthdays, baby showers, or even [people we don't know], and etc. Why are we ask to give to newpaper delivery people on holidays when delivering newspapers is their job? Why don't we receive monetary gifts on holidays from our co-workers for simply being here?

Why do we do that? Why do we celebrate everything? Is it because we have nothing to do, or nothing better to do, or is this a display of power from those who have so little? Since when did I allow others to tell me what the appropriate amount is to give to certain things? Why, and when did this begin and why didn't anybody tell me? And why should I ever feel guilty for not giving anything at all? WHY???

I'm not saying that all giving is bad. Certainly a lunch together to celebrate occasions such as going away parties would be nice, but why then do we need to buy "stuff" to show others our gratitude?

Having said all that, I wonder what my future going away party and gift will be. Sigh.

In fact, right now I think it's better for them if they live with Kevin. KEVIN!!! I KNOW!!! I never thought I'd get to this point, but yes, it has arrived. Kevin Federline may be better than Britney at caring for their kids right now.

Yes, blogging at work. (I'll continue to add a completely different flavor to this blog.) There is a huge and ever increasing number of people who do it. Is it a good idea? Can it get you into trouble?
Well, according to an article in ComputerWorld from last September it is probably okay to do. There are a few guidelines though and it is probably worth understanding what types of things have caused problems for others in the past.

If you think your employer would have a problem you could probably just avoid blogging about your workplace and edit all of your timestamps to look like posts were made outside of office hours. Just a thought.

The Weather Outside is Frightful

Yes, as noted by the radar picture previously, the weather in Pittsburgh is truly frightful. The only time the snow has stopped was when the sleet and ice was falling.

It seems as though many or even most Pittsburghers did not go to work today. Personally, I spent a few hours clearing snow and ice. First, it took a long while just to get into my car through the ice armor that had encased it. Then I had to work away at the ice that was lining the driveway under the snow. The worst part - it's still coming down so I might have to do it again. I'll look on the bright side: I've gotten a good work out two days in a row while clearing snow.

Another observation: I came on here to see if anyone had commented about the snow. I believe it is clear what at least one of my co-workers has been doing today while not in the office. (It is very annoying that you use that general account instead of posting from an individual id.)

I have had it with this whole "Who's your daddy" story in relation to Anna Nicole Smith's baby Dannielynn.

I think by now we have all heard about the "daddy" claims that came out recently, and whoever you believe is the real father, it's time to get that paternity test. Because incase you haven't heard, now Anna's bodyguard Alexander Denk has come out saying that he's the real daddy of Dannielynn.

Why are they still together?

OK, so I'm not a John Mayer fan expect for the song "Your Body is a Wonderland". But even that song gets annoying after a few listens.

I think we can all pretty much agree that when it comes to comparing these two, John is obviously the more talented one especially as a guitarist. Jessica Simpson however, not so much. The look on her face when she sings (ew, that mouth), and her screaching voice (the sound of which makes me want to poop) is another fine example of the music industry that is aimed at selling sex not talent.

Seeing these two together feels unnatural to me, and I hope for the sake of both their lives and careers that they stop this soon.

I'm confused by that last post. I truly do not know what to make of it. I will remedy this by adding my own flavor to this blog. I've made mention of NHL player Sean Avery because I was curious about how his relationship with actress and hottie Elisha Cuthbert will be affected by his recent trade from LA to New York.

In attempt to relate to an earlier post - perhaps Avery is one of the people responsible for giving John Mayer an Emmy... because he is certainly a douchebag. He recently sat down for an interview with Maxim online in which he explained some of his douchebaggery. The guy's well known to be a jerk but this was the comment that put me over the edge:

Are shootouts good for the game, or just hockey’s way of selling out to increase ratings?
They’re awesome. I don’t know why everyone looked upon it as this dreaded thing where we were selling out. It’s a breakaway, it’s a shootout. You decide regular-season games by it. It’s great for the fans. We, as players, like watching it probably more than anyone.

A decent person would have explained that shootouts are an aberration - an abomination. A team player would be appalled at the idea of a great team game being decided by a skills competition.

Chasez's rep says he does not recall that conversation taking place. "And if it did, it would just be to hang out in a group, because he's a cool guy, not like a setup," he explained. I like things that start with "Star"

Today I have satisfied my cravings for all things "star" by consuming Starbucks & Starbursts. I really like Starbursts. They are good. An anonymous co-worker, who we will henceforth refer to as "Gob," has a grocery bag full of the tropical fruit flavored ones on his desk. Sometimes I go back and eat handfuls of them at a time.
Interestingly enough, in light of last night's episode of The Office, this same co-worker approached me this morning asking me if I wanted an Altoid at the same exact moment that I hit an error on my computer and a bell rang. Coincidence?
